The sea change taking place in the auto industry these days has forced car companies to examine their entire operations from closing down factories, laying off workers, seeking alliances with other automakers, and discontinuing models. America's three major automakers have been particularly hard hit in the most recent downturn, with some questioning whether General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler can survive, at least in their current forms.
General Motors (GM), the biggest of the three, has lost tens of billions of dollars over the past four years and is losing money at the rate of one billion dollars monthly. With new products in the pipeline, GM finds itself squeezed on both ends: needing money to develop new vehicles, but losing money as sales continues to decrease.
One of the longest and most heralded names in the GM portfolio is the Suburban, a big SUV that is favored by families, outdoorsmen, and shuttle operators. With passenger seating for eight or more, plenty of legroom, and a luxurious, high profile ride, the Suburban has been faithfully in service since 1936.
However, recent news from GM indicates that the Suburban and other vehicles like it, (i.e., Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade) are on their way out as the automaker has decided to scrap plans to replace them with slightly smaller, lighter models. Citing a drop in demand for SUVs and an ongoing money crunch, GM has abandoned development of its next generation SUVs and will discontinue them in three years - just in time for the Suburban's 75th anniversary.
GM's truck and SUV portfolio has long propped up the automaker, helping the company turn a profit and remain competitive even as foreign automakers gained ground by developing new lines of smaller cars, advanced technology, and keeping pace with rapidly changing consumer trends. Indeed, Toyota, though they've been caught with their share of bigger vehicles, is in an excellent position to weather the current crisis, sitting on a hoard of cash and having a broad selection of hybrid, compact, and midsize vehicles that consumers want.
For GM, the company is living on borrowed time, reviewing which products can be slashed while still trying to hold onto its many brands. Though its HUMMER brand is for sale, no buyer has been found and the company is shifting its production forecast around in a bid to spread out cash. Its ongoing talks with Cerberus Capital Management to purchase that company's Chrysler operations seems way off base right now, but with the threat of tens of thousands of jobs disappearing, GM brass may be looking at gaining some leverage with the federal government to gain additional intervention over and beyond the recently passed loan guarantee money.
At this point in GM's storied 100 year history, the company is going through its most painful restructuring, one that is heavily compounded by an over reliance on bigger vehicles and the worst economic downturn in two decades. Time is running out for GM and for its tens of thousands of workers who must be worrying just what their future is with the iconic automaker whether tasked with building the Suburban or any other GM model.

BMW says that this year, 2008, they will introduce the first hydrogen powered vehicle.
Germans are absolutely determined to manufacture a great number of hydrogen powered vehicles. Have you seen a BMW lately? Well perhaps in the coming months, you will see the magnificent creation of BMW.
General Motors declared way back in the year 2000 that they are going to build hydrogen powered cars but most people believed that it would take around 20 years before that goal can be achieved. Hydrogen technology sounds too unbelievable for them. It was only in 2004 that BMW made the same announcement and they promised the public that by 2008, hydrogen powered BMW cars will roam the streets.
Recent photographs of BMW cars are gaining so much attention especially in automotive blogs. BMW launched their 7 Series just recently and its alternate fuel is hydrogen. Many people spotted the test run of the said vehicle in Germany.

3. Storage concerns. This is another possible problem associated with the production of hydrogen cells. The existing gas lines can't be used to transmit hydrogen fuel because it reacts negatively with steel. Therefore, the government needs to create a distribution system that can be used exclusively for hydrogen fuel.
Despite the three major concerns, automakers like BMW and the federal government are still focusing in the use of hydrogen cells as an alternative to combustion engines. If ever a hydrogen infrastructure is made, the government and the people can benefit highly. One benefit is that the US and other rich countries will no longer depend on foreign oil. The best benefit that the entire mankind can benefit from is that the emissions of greenhouse gases will considerably drop.
The two possible benefits are enough so that the government and automakers continue with their goal in producing hydrogen powered vehicles and a hydrogen infrastructure. If the government does extend the much needed assistance, hydrogen technology will soon benefit everyone.
The quest for hydrogen fuel cannot be realized if only the automakers like General Motors and BMW push for it. They need help from the government and the support of the public. Travelers on the streets of European cities can now enjoy being transported from one place to another in the comfort of the Mercedes Sprinter Minibus. This model was introduced in 2006 at the International Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover, Germany, and since then they have quickly taken over a sizeable market share. The fleet of buses now includes several models including the Sprinter Transfer, Sprinter Travel, Sprinter Mobility, and Sprinter City 65.
The History of the Sprinter This vehicle was first built under the Mercedes-Benz label by Daimler AG in Germany and Argentina in 1995. It was only introduced in Europe for several years and it was designed to replace the full size Mercedes-Benz T1 van that had not been truly updated since the 1970s. Launched in the United States in 2001 as a Freightliner, it was marketed as a commercial vehicle and a passenger vehicle in 2003.
The City 65 Model is one of the Most Popular European Bus Choices The City 65 vehicle is the best-selling regular-service minibus in Western Europe. It is a larger model than past designs with 7.7 meters in length compared with 6.9 meters in the older Sprinter City 35. It can also accommodate up to 30 passengers. Introduction:
Every year car enthusiasts and automotive journalists head over to local car premiers and conventions where all the renown automakers release their precious babies for the masses to gawk at and do the "ooh-ah" over and over, it's like taking a kid to the candy store, but this 2009 is unlike any other.
Our favorite lineup of first-class luxury sedans for 2009, of course, features all-time favorites like the Lexus GS, the Infiniti M, and the Chrysler 300, but right beside these there's a unique, unidentified luxury Sedan that has been grabbing everyone's attention.
And Pontiac, BMW, or Mercedes are not responsible for this one; it comes from an unexpected source. But you'll probably never guess who that unexpected source is, after all you know your luxury Sedans and you know who makes them.
I won't leave you in suspense any longer but surely in utter shock, the mystery automaker is none other than the Korean automaker itself, Hyundai.
That's right, Hyundai fiercely joins the Luxury Sedan business this 2009 via the release of the Genesis; its first 8-cylinder rear-drive luxury sedan.
So for 2009 proud Hyundai dealerships such as Mike Kelly Hyundai eagerly await to represent the Genesis this upcoming summer.
Interestingly enough Genesis is a synonym for "beginning" which in this case is totally appropriate and entirely suggestive that this is merely the beginning for luxury sedans from Hyundai, the world is eager to find out what Korean engineers can offer so let's take a look at what the Genesis promises.
Performance Specs:

Unquestionably a lot of luxury-vehicle enthusiasts are unconvinced that Hyundai is actually up for the challenge. But if Japanese automakers like Lexus and Infiniti have gained an incredible reputation, likewise Korean company, Hyundai endeavors a similar path.
And certainly Hyundai is off with a good start; after all it immediately broke barriers as soon as it made the decision to release the Genesis with the choice of an 8-cylinder engine.
Of course the base powertrain on the Genesis is constituted by a 6-cylinder, 3.8 liter DOHC engine that utilizes Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) in order to increase the power spread. But even with the most basic powertrain, the Genesis will achieve up to 290 horsepower and 264 pounds per foot of torque.
Expectedly, the Genesis with 6-cylinder engine features an Aisin 6-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic transmission complete with overdrive and a lock-up torque converter that works hard in order to enhance its fuel economy on the highway.
As for the upgraded powertrain features, well it's more than you'd expect from a newly released luxury sedan from Hyundai. In fact it has outdone the Acura which comes with a 6-cylinder, 3.7-liter SOHC VTEC engine.
Thanks to that 8-cylinder, 4.6 liters DOHC engine you can achieve anywhere between 368 to 375 horsepower, depending on whether you fill up your baby with premium or regular fuel. Clearly it has simply defeated the Lexus GS V8 Sedan as well as the other competing V8 Sedans such as the 300 from Chrysler, the G8 from Pontiac and the Infiniti M when it comes to horsepower.
And in order to take on the whopping horsepower that the V8 trim produces, the Genesis features an improved ZF 6-speed transmission.
Suspension:
The ASD suspension that the Genesis supports is what the leading luxury vehicles in the market from Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes support as well.
The Genesis' front suspension is composed of an independent 5-link design with SACHS ASD; gas shock absorbers; coil springs; and 25mm anti-roll bar. Meanwhile the rear suspension is an independent 5-link design as well with SACHS ASD; gas shock absorbers; coil springs; and an 18 mm anti roll bar for the V8 trim and a 17 mm anti-roll bar.
Steering:

Truth is the Genesis is impressively good-looking and could easily pass as a Lexus or even a Mercedes-Benz. The Genesis introduces jeweled projector style headlights and front fog lights. The design over all is pretty basic composed of bodycolor bumpers with chrome insert molding and a bodycolor grille with chrome accents.
And like any other luxury sedan the Genesis features high-fashion solar controlled tinted glass and a noise-reducing acoustic laminated windshield and front side glass.
Safety:
The Genesis introduces first-rate quality that you may have never expected from Hyundai, and with all the excitement try not to stray from what's important; safety.

And so the question lingers, will the Genesis be up to par with the competing luxury sedans of 2009? Well perhaps the same sentiments surfaced when the Acura TL hit the market in 1996. We believe that just as this newly released luxury sedan timidly made its debut behind BMW and Mercedes luxury sedans a decade ago all while proving to the world that German nameplates are unnecessary to achieve luxury, the Genesis will prevail for Hyundai as well.
Unlike other automakers like Honda and Toyota, Hyundai refuses to introduce the Genesis under a luxury brand, perhaps because Hyundai attempts to revolutionize and gain the immense notability of luxury automakers such as BMW and Mercedes. Only time will tell.
As noted before though, the Genesis barely makes its debut this 2009 and it has shockingly outdone prestigious automakers that have been in the luxury business for long such as Chrysler, Infiniti and even Lexus.
Surely though since it's still fairly knew in the luxury sedan business we can expect lower pricing on equal luxury.

Using hydraulic truck lifts isn't hard, but there is certainly a right and a wrong way to use them. Loading, raising, and lowering the equipment all require care to ensure that you and others around you can work safely and efficiently. Here is a guideline to follow when loading and working with a vehicle lift.
Loading The Hydraulic Vehicle Lift
When using truck lifts, the engine needs to be turned off, the doors should be closed securely, and the transmission needs to be in neutral. This is also a good time to make a note of anything that could be damaged when the lift is raised, such as antennas or other features. Then, locate the areas underneath that will hold and raise it into the air. The pads can then be set into place. You may also need to use a set of adaptors so that the auto fits onto the equipment properly.
All hydraulic lifting equipment will have blocks in place to keep everything secure. Automatic chocks on the drive on end need to be checked. You will also want to make sure the permanent chocks on the other end are holding securely before starting the equipment. You will want to watch to see if the auto moves and keep an eye on the automatic blockers as you set the system into motion to ensure everything is held safely.
Before Raising Truck Lifts
When it is time to raise the system, don't raise it all the way at first. Instead, go just until the vehicle's weight is being held completely by the vehicle lift and stop. This is generally about a foot. This will give you one last opportunity to make certain the pads are still in the correct position and to change things if there is any movement. Adaptors need to be checked as well. If you fail to do this, force can be exerted onto the body or other parts causing extensive damage.
If there is any doubt about the security or safety of the auto, always lower it back down and make any necessary adjustments. Check it again the same way you did previously and continue to do so until you are completely sure it is safe
Elevating The Load
When it is safe to raise the load, run the system slowly and continue to decrease the speed as the auto reaches the top. Otherwise, you will jerk the equipment, which can break the seal and cause a fluid leak. It can also cause the load to shift. Once the machine is in place, lock it securely according to the operating instructions.
Hydraulic truck lifts are designed to be efficient and completely safe so long as they are used correctly. Taking extra steps to ensure everything is in place and the load on the vehicle lift is secure will keep everyone safe and prevent damage to the vehicle.
