How to build an electric car
We know that anyone can learn how to build an electric car. It really isn't that difficult either. Our first electric car conversion was a 1995 Toyota Corolla (we've done 3 altogether). It turned out great and with every conversion we learn something new.
What will you need to get started?
· A garage, barn or shop to work in, or outside if you have to
· Detailed plans of how to build an electric car
· Tools- wrenches, drills and a small handheld grinder etc.
· A good helper
I say that you need a helper because at times it is difficult to hold parts in place and also secure them. At times, there is heavy lifting involved as well, although you can use a hoist to remove the old engine from your car.
That is the place to start- removing the engine, and all of those parts that you will no longer need, such as the exhaust system.
There is no exhaust with an electric car so it's not needed.
Learning how to build an electric car is really about balancing weight to motor and battery power. You will want the lightest vehicle you can find that will do the job for you and your family. Small cars and trucks fit nicely for this project.
After all of the gas engine parts are removed you will easily find room for the 20 or so batteries you will need and the DC electric motor too.
The plans even detail where you can find batteries and motors for free. Since this is the single biggest expense that is welcome news.
Everything needs to be aligned properly from motor through the transmissions too. Start with the motor and work back from there.
After that you can build simple mounting platforms for the batteries and controllers.
How far will your electric car go on a single charge?
Most conversions make room for enough batteries that will give you an effective range up to 200 miles. That should take you where you want to go between charging.
How fast can an electric car go?
This isn't a slow moving electric golf cart you're building here either. Learning how to build an electric car is nothing like that so get that golf car image out of your head.
Your electric car will easily travel at 50 mph and the acceleration is amazing.
Properly fitted, according to the plans your electric car will rival any muscle car or motorcycle for acceleration in town. The guy beside you at the stop lights will be very surprised.
The first time you climb in your newly built electric car you will be hooked. And the first time you drive by a gas station while others are filling up you will be thankful you started this project.
Did you know that gas is expected to reach $7 per gallon next year? Isn't it time you started your own electric car conversion?
How To Build An Electric Car is the place to start to do your own conversion and start driving with almost free battery power, learning how to build an electric car sure makes sense for you and your family.

GM Looks to Redeem Itself with its Two New Vehicles
GM Looks to Redeem Itself with its Two New Vehicles
General Motors is in the midst of introducing its two newest additions to the GM lineup in dealership showrooms next year. The two new vehicles are the Buick Regal and the Chevy Cruze. GM is targeting new customers in hopes of turning around the market and make themselves a household name once again.
The 2011 Buick Regal is an all-new sedan that is much like its kin the 2010 Buick LaCrosse. The 5-passenger Regal Sedan has already been receiving 5 star safety ratings in Europe and China. The Regal will feature three different four-cylinder engines and the first models will have the 2.4-liter direct-injection engine. The sportier and smaller version of the LaCrosse will hit the market next spring and is aimed to attract more fuel-conscious drivers.
Another eagerly awaited Sedan introduced by GM is the Chevy Cruze. The 2011 Chevy Cruze is aimed to go against the 2012 Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Nissan Sentra. The Cruze, which has already been introduced in Europe and Asia, has already started to see good reviews. The Cruze is powered by a turbocharged and direct-injected 1.4-liter engine that will offer fuel efficiency as high as 40 miles per gallon, with the same power as the 2.4-liter engine in today's 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt.
Make sure to stop by your local Miami GM Dealership to see these latest additions of the GM family. Sales for these two vehicles are expected to be high so make sure to see them before its too late.

Is Chery the New Chevy?
Is Chery the New Chevy?
China is laying plans at this very moment to begin shipment of passenger vehicles to the North American market by mid 2007. Chinese automobile manufacturer, Chery, yes read that again...the company sounds strangely like Chevy, is looking at bringing not just one, but a whole fleet of low cost production vehicles to our shores. Proposed prices will astound you and could potentially bring the U.S. auto market to its knees. Don't think for even one moment that Japanese and Korean automakers will be immune from this flood of low cost cars. Chery vehicles have been designed - some say stolen - from current Asian models and will compete directly against the likes of Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Hyundai. China's long awaited war with the US - at one time expected to begin with a Red Army attack on Taiwan -- may be fought on an economic front instead.
Chery, a state-owned car producer formed in China's eastern Anhui Province, is currently building a number of cars in China including the QQ - a compact car strangely similar to the Daewoo Spark [GM' Korean division], as well as several sedans and a compact SUV. Indeed, recent charges made by Toyota, GM, and Honda have all alleged that Chery mimicked or outright stole designs from at least one of each automaker's vehicles including the Honda CR-V. For the record, the Toyota case was rejected, Honda is still attempting to work out a solution with their case, and GM recently dropped its suit after the Chinese automaker agreed not to sell their cars in the US under the Chery name which GM has stated is too close to the Chevy name. Chinese courts have also ruled that the Daewoo Spark design was not registered in China, so GM dropped its suit.
At present, the Chery vehicle line up includes the tiny QQ; a compact SUV built jointly with Mitsubishi called the Tiggo; and three sedans: the Oriental Son, the Flagcloud, and the Windcloud. Recently, Chery unveiled a newly designed crossover vehicle along the lines of the Chrysler Pacifica. With an introductory MSRP of under $20,000 the Chery crossover will seat up to seven passengers and come equipped with both four and six cylinder engines. As you might guess the Chery crossover, if equipped similarly to the Pacifica, could be priced some ten thousand dollars less than the Chrysler model.
Current prices on the other models have not yet been set, but published reports this past summer indicated that a basic Chery could retail for as low as $6995 in the US, which would be some three thousand dollars less than the next lowest priced car, the Chevy Aveo [from GM's Daewoo unit, naturally]. Of course, this particular pricing strategy has raised all sorts of alarms within the automobile industry, chiefly how to counter a flood of low cost cars invading the U.S. market. As some have pointed out, much like Hyundai's introduction to the North America market during the 1980s, the Chinese cars are expected to initially have only a limited appeal primarily due to expected low quality levels. Still, it only took Hyundai less than one decade to begin to produce cars which consistently matched the quality levels of many American and Asian models. So, it could be just a matter of a few years before Chinese cars receive the positive press now given to many other Asian automakers, resulting in a sharp surge in sales.
While the Chery dealer network within the US has yet to be established, it is under development; a limited version of the dealer network is expected to be in place by Summer 2007 when the first Chinese vehicles arrive. A rapid expansion of this same network across the US and Canada has been planned over the ensuing years and although the Chery name will not be used in the US, you can expect that whatever name is selected these cars will impact the way many Americans buy their cars from that point forward. Oh, by the way, two other Chinese automakers -- Shuanghuan Automobile Manufacturing, LTD and Geely Automotive -- are also expected to export cars to the North American market soon after Chery makes its debut.
While it is too early to say, the opening of the lucrative North American automobile market to cheap Chinese vehicles could possibly shake the American economy in ways never anticipated. I, for one, shudder to think just how all of this might unfold.

Zipcar - Sustainable Car Sharing
Zipcar - Sustainable Car Sharing
Compact communities such as the Hill, in Brooklyn, NY, allow residents to drive less because the things they want are closer to where they live-a concept known as "access by proximity." City dwellers are fortunate enough-unlike rural communities-to not have to go very far. Of course, this is a good thing because it means emissions of CO2 will be greatly reduced if you don't use a car. According to the EPA, the average car owner emits approximately 5.5 metric tons of CO2 a year. Almost one-third of carbon dioxide produced in the United States comes from motorized transportation.
Fortunately for Brooklynites, there are plenty of effective alternatives-the most obvious is the MTA. The Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush and Dekalb are two major hubs with access to the LIRR and we have the B25, 26,38,52, and 54 bus lines. And of course, there are the A,C and G lines on Lafayette Avenue.
Bicycle usage is growing in Brooklyn, which means more people are advocating for better riding conditions. Because of this, Brooklyn is seeing significant improvements around the borough. According to Streetsblog.org, the DOT has plans to eliminate vehicular parking spaces and replace them with bike racks in North Brooklyn - chosen because more than 70% of the households do not own cars. Since 2001, the DOT has added more than 150 miles of bicycle lanes. The newest of which was added on Willoughby Avenue from Fort Greene Park all the way to Bedford. Much of these improvements were made with the help of Transportation Alternatives, an advocacy organization for cycling, walking, and environmentally friendly transportation.
Purchasing a small cart for the front or back of a bicycle is a great way to maximize its efficiency; it's perfect for short errands to grocery store. If you have children, consider purchasing a bicycle trailer, which will allow you to safely take your kid(s) with you wherever you go on a bike. Ken Schles, a resident of Fort Greene, bikes to Tribeca nearly everyday with his seven-year-old daughter riding in a Trail-A-Bike. After dropping her off at school he heads to his photography studio. Along the way they like to point out what they see, "one day we counted dogs," Ken said. When I asked Ken why he does it he said, "It's a great opportunity to get some exercise and spend some quality time with my daughter." After talking with Ken, I went on my computer and used Google maps to calculate the distance and estimate the time to compare biking his route to taking the subway. It's only 3.5 miles or approximately 25 minutes on a bike.
There are also car alternatives. The arrival of the Zipcar vehicle sharing service, for instance, which allows members to live without a vehicle, but still have access to one when they need it. Each Zipcar takes over 20 personally-owned vehicles off the road (there are over 3,000 Zipcars around the world.) Consequently, less land and financial resources are needed to provide parking infrastructure. Car usage of individuals is reduced by as much as 50%. This all means fewer greenhouse gases emissions and, of course, less congestion on the roads.
There are currently a total of 21 Zipcars available in Clinton Hill at DMK Garage at 116 Waverly Avenue, at Armory Parking Garage at 172 Vanderbilt Avenue, and at BAM at 258 Ashland Place. The cars come in a variety of makes and models ranging from the Toyota Prius to the Subaru Outback Oden.
Walking is the ultimate alternative for obvious health and environmental reasons. However, it also fosters interaction between community members-something essential for community sustainability. Rob Hersey, a student at Pratt, gave up his vehicle when he moved to Fort Greene from Westchester two years ago. "Where I lived, you needed a car to get around. In Brooklyn, walking is definitely more efficient-not to mention less expensive!" says Rob. He walks to class everyday from his apartment near Fort Greene Park. In a compact community like the Hill, there are many opportunities for social interaction as Rob explains, "I like to get out and interact with the community; riding around in a vehicle just seems reclusive." Social interaction is a fundamental part of a sustainable community. Walking is truly a sign of healthy community in more ways than one.

Speculation on Delhi Auto Expo 2010
Speculation on Delhi Auto Expo 2010
The Delhi Auto Expo is two months away, but fully booked by car makers to display their latest creations. There is absolutely no space at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, the venue for Auto Expo 2010. This is really hard to believe as many car makers opted out of the recently held Tokyo Motor Show. Car giants like Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Skoda, Audi, Volkswagen, Ford, BMW, Renault, Hyundai, General Motors, Honda and Toyota apart from Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki will be taking part in the Delhi Auto Expo.
Besides, there will be many car component makers throughout the world that will grace this Auto Expo. These car parts and accessories makers are the real heroes behind India's reputation in quality and cost-competitiveness. The Delhi Auto Expo 2010 is likely to have its own share of surprises as many car makers will be coming out with their latest creations. Europe's number one car maker, Volkswagen, will display the Polo and has booked a hall of over 1,500 square metres. This reflects the German car maker's interest in India. Tata Motors will take up the largest room of 5,500 square metres and the much-awaited Xover will make its world debut. India's number one car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has booked 4,700 square metres while Hyundai has booked 2,000 square metre. Mahindra & Mahindra is expected to focus on its commercial vehicle range and has booked a space of nearly 2,100 square metres and Swedish car major Volvo will showcase its buses and trucks through the newly created company with Eicher. The Auto Expo will begin on January 5th and will go on for a week. This Auto Expo at New Delhi is held every two years. It is an important platform for car manufacturers and component makers to showcase their products to the public. But, why it is that car makers are eyeing the Indian wallet? There is a shift in the paradigm of car business and India has emerged as the hottest destination to invest in. There are many factors related to this. Firstly, there are many benefits in India. India has a high-quality vendor base which is also cost-effective, leading to globally-competitive pricing. Furthermore, the labour charge is less compared to other countries.
